The Permatang Pasir state by-election has been fixed for Aug 25 while the nomination will be on Aug 17, the Election Commission announced today.
Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the writ would be issued today and the notice, tomorrow.
He said the EC received official notification from the Penang state assembly speaker on Aug 3 and agreed that the seat had fallen vacant on Aug 1.
As such, the EC had to conduct a by-election within 60 days of the seat falling vacant, he told a news conference at the EC head office in Putrajaya.
The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Datuk Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman, 63, of heart ailment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur on July 31. - The NST
